Ground surfaces in the UK vary enormously. Problem surface materials, topographical terrain characteristics and of course the prevailing regional weather conditions, cause inefficient and expensive working conditions for machine users and operators throughout the UK.

Until now, in the construction, building and farming sectors, wheeled machines and twin-tracked vehicles have been the only middleweight alternatives. These machines are selected to suit the specific type, variety and scale of work to be done; as well as the evaluation of the local surface, topographical features, site access options and environmental constraints.

Typically, surfaces that are sensitive or unstable in the UK will include native soil-based substrates, sand, shingle and clay, all of which are affected by the local topography such as gradients, wetlands and water-logged areas.
